Can XStealth detect an intercepted call?

  • “Can XStealth Phone detect when the other side of your call is being intercepted?”
  • “Can XStealth Phone detect call interception—even when your phone isn’t the target?”
  • “What if the other phone is being intercepted? Can XStealth Phone detect it?”
  • “Can XStealth Phone tell if your call is being intercepted through the other phone?”
  • “If their phone is intercepted, will XStealth Phone know?”
  • “Can XStealth Phone detect an intercepted call without being the target?”
  • “Is your call being intercepted—even if your phone isn’t?”
  • “Can XStealth Phone detect interception on the other end of the call?”

These are the most common questions we get from users and interested people about a hot subject: call interception detection when the other end of the call is tapped.

The short answer is YES: XStealth ULTRA/PRO can detect when the partner’s phone is intercepted and trigger a Call Interception Alert.
Extended answer below.

There are 3 different scenarios:

IMSI Catcher detection

1. IMSI Catcher scenario

If the partner’s cell phone (regular cell phone) is intercepted via an IMSI Catcher, the Call Interception Alert on your XStealth ULTRA/PRO will be triggered. This is because an IMSI Catcher must route the call via VOIP, which our system can easily detect.

This is how detection works:

  • Signal Capture: The IMSI catcher terminates the radio link directly with the handset, capturing unencrypted or descrambled audio frames.
  • IP/VoIP Translation: The IMSI catcher converts the circuit-switched voice data streams into packet-switched VoIP (using SIP or custom protocols) inside the unit’s internal processing board.
  • Network Forwarding: The system bridges the audio packets toward a designated gateway or home network destination.

Because of these changes to the regular voice call route and especially packet changes (that require different packet encoding), a voice call that arrives on your XStealth ULTRA/PRO is flagged as intercepted, and the alert is triggered.

So yes, in this case, the Call Interception Alert is triggered, and the XStealth Phone will warn you about the other end of the intercepted call.

SS7 Interception detection

2. SS7 scenario

If the partner cell phone (regular cell phone) is intercepted via SS7 (aka Lawful Interception or network-switch interception), the Call Interception Alert is also triggered. In this particular case, the packet delay is the main trigger. Please remember that after inserting a new SIM card into the phone, you must run the Calibration procedure. This is not just an auto-learning network process; it also measures the standard network redundancy (regular packet transfer rate/speed), flags it as “normal” after measurements, and uses those values as the main reference for further analysis and alerts.

This is how detection works:
Once the standard network redundancy is set up via Calibration, any packet delays (in ms) are flagged as a threat, triggering the Call Interception Alert.
When the voice call is diverted via SS7, the packets are not modified as an IMSI Catcher does; instead, they are delayed because they take a longer route. This delay is detectable and triggers the Call Interception Alert.

Worldwide, about 96% of call interceptions are done via IMSI Catchers and SS7/LI.

Spyware detection

3. Spyware scenario

This is more about call recording and not call interception.
If a government-grade spyware such as Pegasus, or even a commercial-grade spyware such as FlexySpy, is installed on the partner phone (a regular one). This is similar to voice call recording using an app installed on the regular cell phone by the phone user: call recording cannot be detected.
How that spyware works: all of them, whether government-grade or commercial-grade, record the voice call on the phone where the app is installed, then send the recorded audio to a server where it can be listened to and used for further actions.
In this case, the Voice Call Interception Alert is not triggered because there is no way to detect spyware on the partner phone through a simple phone call. This is not a bug; it is a technological limitation.

XStealth ULTRA/PRO can detect and block spyware installation attempts on the device, but cannot detect spyware installed on other cell phones.

Please note: While roaming (when your phone is used in another country with your SIM card), false positives (false alerts) may be triggered depending on local network settings and capabilities.
